Bo Diddley Signed and Framed Photo VG++
Photo of Diddley with his distinctive rectangular guitar, signed clearly with a gold sharpie.
Born Ellas Otha Bates in 1928 he was adopted by his mother’s cousin and took her surname McDaniel dropping the Otha. The origins of his stage name are unclear with Diddley giving various stories, one of which he claimed he was given it by his peers, he suspected as an insult. A diidley bow is a homemade single string instrument played mainly by farmworkers in the south – he was a very accomplished violinist, in American slang bo is an intensifier and diddly is a truncation of diddley squat meaning absolutely nothing. He played a major role in the development of rock ‘n’ roll from the blues and is cited as an influence on Elvis, The Beatles and The Stones.
